Arugula Selvatica Seeds

Wild type with dark serrated leaves.

Shelf life after harvest is very long.

Pungent flavor.

Favorite of both chefs and growers.

A popular green used in salads for its distinct peppery, sweet taste.

Provides the same punch to a salad as chopped green onions, but without their aftertaste.

Notched green leaves resemble chicory - catalogna in shape and texture.

HARVEST: 40 - 50 days from sowing

.Plants form a small rosette heart and lots of external leaves that may be individually cut or the whole plant can be harvested at a young stage.

Older plants become slightly bitter in taste after 55 days - so a continuous seeding schedule should be maintained throughout the spring and late summer for a fresh supply of greens.

As leaves are harvested fresh growth will appear.

Start picking the leaves when they are 2 in./5 cm long.

Keep cutting the plant until it starts to produce flowers - then pull the old plant out and re-seed.

Flowers are also edible in salads

Health/Medicinal benefits

With very few calories and tons of flavor it is a great green to help maintain a healthy weight without sacrificing great tasting foods!

Arugula is a rich source of certain phytochemicals that have been shown to combat cancer-causing elements in the body. Arugula is also a great source of folic acid and Vitamins A, C and K. As one of the best vegetable sources of Vitamin K, arugula provides a boost for bone and brain health.

Arugula has an array of minerals and high levels of Iron and Copper, making it a good substitute for spinach if you’re paying attention to getting more vegetable based iron in your diet.

Its peppery flavor provides a natural cooling effect on the body – a good food for hot weather picnics!

Like other leafy greens, arugula is also a hydrating food, helping keep your body hydrated in the heat of summer.
